Garage Conversions
If you have an existing carport, you can greatly benefit from a carport to garage conversion that allows you to have additional space, besides being used to park your car. A garage conversion can also give you a brand new family room, home theater, an extra living room or bed room, home office or any other use you can think of. An ideal situation would be one where the front part of the garage could house your vehicle, while the rest of the garage is turned into a living space.
A garage conversion allows you to create extra space at a cost that's much lower than making an addition to the house. You already have a room, and with some creativity and planning, you can easily convert your garage into livable spaces, like a family room or a bedroom. The focus should be on having a livable space that looks like an integral part of the house. This means that your garage conversion must include heating and air conditioning, new electrical fittings and additional plumbing, if necessary. If you are planning to convert your garage into your bedroom, an attached bath is a must. If you have a double garage, you can even consider portioning off the space, so that the front part of the garage functions as your carport, while the rear comprises your living space.
Some areas require special building permits before you begin garage conversion. For instance, if you convert your garage to a bedroom, you may need to install an emergency exit as per local Charlotte, NC area building codes. If your garage conversion leads to defects in the drainage system of your property, you may need additional work done to handle this. Extra permits will also be needed. Some areas will need permits to replace the garage door with the window. Make sure that all permits are in place before you begin your garage conversion remodel.
